Welcome to the fourth industrial revolution, hailed by many as an era of change in which industries and organisations adapt to rapidly developing smart technology that automate working processes which would previously have been undertaken by humans. But is this something to celebrate when we consider the potential upheaval or individuals and businesses?

In the early compliance audits by HM Revenue & Customs, those exposed tended to be small and isolated instances, some deliberate and some naive ignorance! In recent months, it is clear some large employers appear to be struggling in their reward strategies in assuring compliance of paying legal minimum pay, whether that be National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage.

There’s no real definition of part-time work in terms of hours. The definition just means fewer hours per week than a full-time job. But there’s still a stigma attached to part-time or flexible working. Flexible working is often associated with women returning to work after maternity leave or having to fit jobs around a school run or even working in low paid or low skilled professions. This view is a tad outdated to say the least.
